With cases on the rise in Halton Region, Burlington’s Mayor Marianne Meed Ward residents should be concerned.
“The simplest message I could give to residents is this: If you don’t live with somebody, assume that they have COVID and conduct yourself accordingly.”
Even with the temptation to gather this holiday season, she is urging residents to follow public health guidelines.
“Our [Burlington] numbers are going up again, a little bit. There’s been a lot of talk about a vaccine coming; we know we’re getting that but that’s not the silver bullet. That’s not the only solution. We are going to continue, for at least a year, to need to be keeping physical distance, hand washing, wearing a mask when out in public. Those measures are going to be critically important throughout 2021.”
Halton reported 92 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday.
St. Anne Catholic Elementary school in Burlington has had to close down one classroom after 4 cases were reported Tuesday night.
There are currently active 14 outbreaks in Halton region.
The region’s Medical Officer of Health says the region continues to see community transmission. She is asking residents to avoid carpooling, and having coffee and play dates.
