Halton police say three Colombian nationals have been arrested in connection with a series of break and enters.
The first incident happened on March 26 at a home on Bayshire Dr. in Oakville. Police say the rear glass sliding door was smashed and several items including jewellery, watches, cash and car keys were stolen from the home.
A neighbour spotted someone carrying multiple bags away from the house and contacted police.
“A thorough canvass of the area resulted in the discovery of exceptional video footage captured by neighbouring homes,” said Halton police in a news release. “Using the information gleaned from the eyewitness and the security footage, investigators identified three Colombian nationals residing in the City of Toronto.”
On April 17, police arrested Brian Moncada Mejia, 28, and Mario Gerardo Quintero Melo, 47 in Toronto. Officers executed a search warrant and the suspects’ temporary home and found roughly $100,000 in stolen property.
Three days later a third suspect, 45-year-old Sandra Patricia Jimenez-Ramirez, was also arrested.
Mejia and Melo are facing several charges including break and enter and possession of forged documents.
Jimenez-Ramirez has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Investigators allege the trio also took part in break and enters in Richmond Hill and Markham.
All three accused are being held in custody pending bail hearings.
“The Halton Regional Police Service will be collaborating closely with the Canada Border Services Agency to determine the suspects’ current status in Canada,” said police in a news release.
Anyone with additional information that could help police is asked to contact Acting Detective John McMullan at 905-825-4747, ext. 2217.
